Short Program Workshops:

We customize our Short Program Workshops to fit the needs of each special event or class.
These programs are a 1.5 hour minimum duration and can be designed for drop-in participation or be facilitated in a more traditional class format. Workshop fees vary according to length of program and and the number of participants. We provide the teachers and materials and tailor programs to meet each group’s goals. A selection of programs are listed below. We can also create a program based on a particular theme or material.

(Grades 6-12 & Adults, Min. 2.0 hrs.) 

Learn how to express a significant event, dream, or a critical observation about your surroundings using 3D collage techniques. Using various paper ephemera your personal memory will become a surreal maquette!

Weave a colorful tapestry using found materials such as jeans, t-shirts, maps, books, cereal boxes, and more! In this creative re-use workshop, you will learn how to make a simple loom and re-purpose favorite garments and other household items into unique artworks.

Make your own insects, microbes, plankton, and tiny sculptures of all kinds in this assemblage workshop. Discover how to turn wire, e-waste, screws, and other odds and ends into real and imaginary creatures.

(Grades 4-12 & Adults, Min. 1.5 hrs.) *This can be adapted for all seasons and for younger participants.

Picture yourself jumping in the ocean waves, building a sandcastle on the beach in the sunshine or camping under the stars in a redwood forest. Then turn your scene of the season into a one-of-a-kind haiku book by collaging found text and imagery from magazines, books, and scrap papers.

(Grades K-12, Min. 1.5 hrs.)

Forage found images from calendars, greeting cards, and magazines to find the elements for your assemblage. Play with “cut-up” and collage techniques to create your own one-of-a-kind hybrid dancers.

(Grades K-12 & Adults, Min. 1.5 hrs.)

Make your own handmade cards to give to friends and family. Discover how to use collage, pop-up, and other craft techniques to turn discarded greeting cards and paper ephemera into unique pieces of art.

(Grades K-12 & Adults, Min. 2 hrs.)

Depict your dreams of the season through light, shadow, color, and shape. Transform a milk carton, mason jar, cereal box, and other discarded objects into a glowing tabletop sculpture or hanging artwork.


(Grades K-8, Min. 1.5 hrs.)

Discover the rich cultural tradition kite-making and how it explores identity and memory. Then, learn how to visually express a significant relationship in your life using symbolism to create your own flying sculpture.

(Grades K-3, Min. 1.5 hrs.)

Explorer the role color, shape, and pattern play in nature as you create animal habitat collages. These can take on the form of a two or three dimensional work on paper or an accordion book.
